Where did May go?

Tuesday, June 06, 2017
Time flies quickly when half the staff is laid up! On May 7th Jim took a tumble off his stand-up electric scooter, creating many fractures in his left foot. He is now operating at half mask. Just three more weeks off it and, hopefully, the surgeon will release him. In the meantime, business is as usual with additional local help. We are thankful for all those who have pitched in.

As you can see, he has a knee-scooter to help h ...

Spring is near...

Friday, April 21, 2017
This is the last blotch of our winter snow, finally!
I caught Jim running over the other one with the tractor the other day, his way of saying good-bye to winter I, suppose.

Locally 11.5 feet of snow fell, per the US Forest Service. At its peak, we measured 53" that had settled on the ground here at Meadowrock.

We're buried in snow!

Thursday, February 09, 2017
This winter we have an unusual amount of snow. It's beautiful!!!

And while I'm admiring the beauty of it all, Jim works every day clearing it first from the alpaca paddocks and then everything else. We haven't taken a "snow day" yet, but, I hear about the schools taking them. Are farmers allowed?

This photo is taken looking north from the end of our driveway before the snow plow went by. Shoppers are ...

Columbia Gorge Fiber Festival 2016

Tuesday, November 01, 2016
Three days of immersing myself in vibrant colors and people! It was fun. And I think I'm finally getting the hang of moving the store to market, just put it all on wheels. Jim, my dear husband, has been indispensable in attaining this feat. It only took four hours to get the booth set up from the alpaca products on display to our friendly and modern check-out station. With the new barcoding system in place, check-out this year was a breeze. ...

Shearing!

Friday, March 18, 2016
We're hoping for a warm spell around April the 8th as we're shearing a whole month early this year to take advantage of a 4-man national shearing team who will be done in about an hour. Less stress on us and the alpacas. Photos will be posted on Facebook: Meadowrock Alpacas Farm & Annex.

MeadowrockAlpacas.com

Wednesday, March 02, 2016
After many, many hours and a lot of teamwork our website has been turned inside out and upside down to provide a cleaner, user-friendly, updated website. But we're NOT DONE! The truly awesome stuff is yet to come. Over the next several weeks, those folks that do all the magic behind closed doors will be completing the TOUR BOOKING SOFTWARE.

Barcodes

Tuesday, February 16, 2016
The conclusion of creating a barcode system, designing thousands of labels and attaching them to over 6,000 items has made for an awesome check-out experience here at Alpaca Annex. We can now process payments using wireless, chip card, magnetic strip, and, my favorite, CASH, which makes the 1913 National Cash Register ring ;-D
Remember, using cash is the only way to hear this old girl ring.

With our mild winter passing, spring has sprung with the daffodils and hyacinth in full bloom. Anticipation is building with Opal's cria (baby), the first of our 2015 crop. Opal is due around April 23rd. With less than a month away we are closely watching her and can see her cria moving around to get into that perfect position for joining our world :-) Shearing is also coming up, mid-May. It's very fun to see their little bodies once the lovely ...

Emery and Tuff have gone to their permanent home

Friday, October 24, 2014
Although Emery and Tuff have gone to their permanent home now I've left them on the site as I hate to see them go. The three 2014 cria loves racing.

We now have NINE alpacas living at Meadowrock. Three of our gems (Opal, Amber, and Ruby) are confirmed pregnant with 2015 cria (babies). Opal is expecting in April with Amber & Ruby following in late July. We're very excited to welcome three cria from outside breedings which will produce n ...

EMERY, so straight, so strong! On 7/12/14 Sapphire gave Tuff a BOY to play with and she is delighted. Emery, the rock, is mostly corundum; we know the gem quality corundum as sapphire and ruby.
