Yes. You can enjoy this game greatly solo. The crafting/gathering is pretty much the best available in an mmorpg, and that's coming from someone who has played them all.

P2W? No. Paying just expedites time investment. There is ways to make money, but its more in you having to market yourself and resources than purely killing x to get y to sell at a vendor.
