MTC and the Bay Area Toll Authority (BATA) encourage travelers to get FasTrak® — the fastest and easiest way to pay tolls on bridges, Express Lanes and even for parking at San Francisco International Airport.
A FasTrak tag is a small device that mounts on a vehicle’s windshield — and it’s easy to use. Customers can simply add money to their FasTrak accounts, and each time they use it, the toll amount is automatically deducted from the prepaid balance. Watch this video to see how simple it is.
There are different ways to get a FasTrak tag and different types of tags, depending on your vehicle and your driving habits.
How to Get a FasTrak Tag
Online:
- Order your tag and set up your account all at once
By Phone:
- Call toll free (877) 229-8655, or dial 511 and ask for “FasTrak” at the first prompt
- Phone service is available Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Fridays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
By Mail:
- Print out this form and mail it to FasTrak
- Your tag will be mailed to you
- Then finish your account set up online
In Person:
- Visit the FasTrak customer service center at 375 Beale Street in San Francisco (Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.); or
- Purchase a FasTrak tag at select Costco and Walgreens stores for around $25 – see the map of participating stores — and then finish your account set up online.
- Drivers may also add money to their FasTrak accounts with cash at more than 100 Cash Payment Network locations, including many Walmart stores.
Choosing the Right Toll Tag
FasTrak has three types of toll tags: Standard, Flex and CAV.
- FasTrak Standard tags are perfect for paying bridge tolls.
- FasTrak Flex tags allow carpools and motorcycles to receive toll discounts in Bay Area Express Lanes. A FasTrak Flex toll tag also works on bridges and to pay for parking at San Francisco International Airport.
- FasTrak CAV tags allow eligible clean air vehicles (CAVs) to receive discounted single-occupant travel in the I-880, I-680 Contra Costa and SR-237 Express Lanes.
Who Uses FasTrak?
FasTrak customers already account for about three-quarters of all crossings at the Bay Area’s seven state-owned toll bridges. All Bay Area bridges now are cash-free and use all-electronic tolling. FasTrak makes toll payment a breeze.
License Plate Accounts
As an alternative, drivers may open a License Plate Account. This pay-as-you-go option links a license plate to your account and then charges that account whenever the vehicle crosses a toll bridge. (License Plate Accounts are not valid for Express Lanes.)
