“ | When the world is full of wyverns, the legend is revived. Meat is eaten, bone is crunched, and blood is sucked up dry Fatalis. He burns the earth and melts through iron. He boils the rivers and mows down trees. He awakens the winds and lights an inferno. He is called Fatalis, the wyvern of destiny. He is called Fatalis, the wyvern of destruction. | „ |

Biography[]
Monster Hunter[]
The Fatalis are a group of ancient Elder Dragons who have prowled the lands since ancient times. Most originally believed that Fatalis was a myth but those who learned the truth barely lived long enough to tell the truth .It was responsible for destroying the Schrade Kingdom in a single night which it now calls the ruins its home. Many hunters have sought to challenge it and kill it, but none of them ever returned. Fatalis would melt the armor of the hunters it killed onto its scales to make it even harder to kill. Those whom have worn its armor are rumoured to start to slowly become mind-broken and possessed by the still-living dragon. The rise of Fatalis causes Lao-Shan Lung to flee and almost destroy Minegarde Town. Fatalis is eventually unlocked as a secret encounter and can be tackled with other players.
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne[]
Fatalis shows up as the final DLC in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne and is revealed to be responsible for an amass of forest-fires, earthquakes and the disappearances of elder dragons. The commission is hired to help slay the beast once and for all before it attacks human civilization.
Its revealed that in the past, Fatalis attacked the Schrade region and massacred the people of Castle Schrade for no known reason; the historic event becomes a fairytale and song overtime and Fatalis itself being a mere legend that some don't believe could even exist.
The commission eventually arrive at what's left of Castle Schrade, the General and co then start to ponder over the people of Schrade and how they fought the best they could before being interrupted by the early arrival of Fatalis. Aiden and the hunter both stay behind while the others retreat and wait for back-up.
Fatalis faces both Aiden and the hunter and licks its lips in anticipation before engaging in combat with the two; after a short fight, Fatalis unleashes its super move known as the 'Ruinous Pyroclasm' which obliterates a portion of Castle Schrade and almost kills Aiden before he is rushed away by the two handlers to recover while the hunter faces Fatalis alone (or with online players).
Eventually, the hunter successfully finishes off Fatalis once and for all, putting an end to its murderous rampage.
Dragalia Lost[]
Fatalis appeared as an obtainable dragon and boss in the Dragalia Lost x Monster Hunter collab event: Monster Hunter Primal Crisis. Fatalis is said to have entered the space between worlds known as the Otherworld. Despite the Otherworld's life-eroding black mana, Fatalis is resilient enough to survive in it without issue. Whenever a rift into a new world opens, Fatalis travels through it to to raze it to the ground. When it's the only life in that world that remains, it returns to the Otherworld to repeat the process.
As a useable dragon, Fatalis grants the adventurer it's equipped to a 80% strength increase if they're attuned to Shadow. However, should the adventurer shapeshift into Fatalis, they become afflicted with the Curse ailment for the duration of the quest.
Personality[]
The Fatalis are depicted as being misanthropic with a hatred for humanity is so deep that it is said that it would burn thousands of hunters and melt their corpses into it's hide to make a suit of armor much like what humans do to monsters. Fatalis's presence is even known to make other monsters flee in terror with elder dragons like Lao-Shan Lung and Teostra fleeing regions to escape from Fatalis.
While not all Fatalis have the same personality; the black-scaled Fatalis responsible for the destruction of Castle Schrade is shown to be genuinely sad*stic and malevolent with it licking its lips in anticipation before fighting the hunter; this is helped further by the callous behaviour it demonstrates during combat with one of its attacks involving forcibly melting the hunter alive while being molded into its chest.
Trivia[]
- Due to the 'Iceborne' Fatalis encounter being considered the only canon one lorewise, it is unclear if Crimson and White Fatalis harbor the same sadism as their black-scaled cousin.
- Fatalis, Wind Serpent Ibushi, Thunder Serpent Narwa, and Safi'jiiva are currently the only monsters in the canon Monster Hunter games that are shown to be 'sapient' and genuinely malicious rather than being 'animals' like most of the other monsters in the series.
- While its not explicitly stated, it is heavily implied that if Fatalis was not slain during the fight in Castle Schrade, Fatalis would have targeted more human civilizations and massacred many more people.
