“Domestic species” like apple, strawberry, raspberry, plums, black currant, grapes apricots, and pears have been bred to be more winter hardy for Saskatchewan conditions. Many domestic and unique fruit varieties have been bred by the University of Saskatchewan Fruit Research Program. Some unique fruit species include haskap, dwarf sour cherry, hazel nut (a nut crop), seabuckthorn, aronia, and hardy kiwi.
Various wines and alcoholic beverages have also been crafted using Saskatchewan fruit. These are available at many liquor outlets across the province, as well as on-site at wineries and cideries.
