In general, you will need to make up the failed class in order to graduate. You can do this by taking the class again during the summer or next school year, or by completing a credit recovery program.

What state tests do 9th graders take in Ohio? ›

At the high school level, students are required to take standardized state assessments in 9th and 10th grade language arts, algebra, geometry, biology, U.S. history, and U.S. government. Click on the following link for more information from the Ohio Department of Education.

Applicants who attend a non-chartered high school are not required to submit ACT or SAT scores as part of their application. For transfer applicants, submission of a test score is encouraged but optional for those who have earned fewer than 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) after high school graduation.

Students can retake a test if they need to get additional points. There are also other ways for students to meet the requirement if they have difficulty reaching 18 points. Unlike other tests, the OST is focused on grade level material and is aligned to the state standards.

State achievement tests tell us how well our students are growing in the knowledge and skills outlined in Ohio's Learning Standards. These tests help guide and strengthen future teaching so we can be sure that we are preparing our students for long-term success in school, college, careers and life.
