Paradox Interactive’s long-running 4X game Stellaris refuses to die, and its own team has seemingly confirmed this as they have no current plans for a sequel, either.
“There’s so much stuff for us to continue working with,” game director Stephen Muray said to PC Gamer. “I have things planned for ages. So yeah, it’s not something that I’m personally very worried about or interested in right now.”
The Stellaris team has been split into a “custodians” team and an “expansion” team, the former focused on smaller updates that mostly fix bugs and improve balancing or performance – while the latter focuses on big new expansions like their latest species DLC, the Toxoids.
“Sometimes the things that we fix actually unfix some of the other things indirectly,” Muray said. “They made massive performance improvements to the game, and then we improved the AI.
Coming from this, Muray noted the “AI is much better at playing the game” so much so that “their economies are gargantuan” when compared to 2 updates earlier. “I joke that they do the performance improvements, and then we stumble,” he said.
