This section of IGN's Destiny 2: The Witch Queen guide details the new matchmade activity called The Wellspring, which is part of The Witch Queen expansion. This page will cover how to complete The Wellspring during both the attack and defend phases, as well as detail the rewards you'll receive.

The Wellspring is a six-player matchmade activity with a daily rotation of activities and weapons to acquire. To begin The Wellspring, you'll need to grab The Spring of Power Quest from Fynch in the Throne World. This will unlock the activity and allow you to participate in it each day.

How to Complete The Wellspring: Attack

The Wellspring is a new activity as part of The Witch Queen that rotates between two modes each day. You can hover over The Wellspring icon on the Throne World map to see which activity is happening on any given day, as well as the potential reward dropping.

In the attack variant of The Wellspring, you'll be trying to retake control of the Wellspring. You'll begin at the base of the bridge where you'll have to fight your way through enemy forces. This part is very straightforward - work together with your Fireteam to eliminate the enemies and reach the other side of the bridge.

Once complete, jump onto one of the two large circular discs to be launched up to the next area of the tower. During this phase, you'll be guiding the Resonant Splinter to the end of the hallway. This small pyramid-shaped vehicle requires someone to stand near it in order for it to drive, much like pushing the payload in Overwatch.

While someone is keeping the Resonant Splinter moving, the rest of the Fireteam should work to hold off the enemy forces. Occasionally, crystals will spawn in the air and stop the progress of the Resonant Splinter. Shoot these to break them and allow it to continue moving forward.

Once the Resonant Splinter reaches the doorway, proceed into the final chamber where you'll have to retake the Wellspring. There will be a boss enemy guarded by a number of Hive runes. Shoot the crystals over the Wellspring to begin this encounter.

The boss will initially be immune due to its shield, so you'll need to drop it in order to begin the damage phase. To do so, look at the glowing Hive runes around the Wellspring. Take note of the topmost rune and find the matching doorway around the edge of the arena.

Enter the correct room and stand on the plate in the middle. Defeat the enemies that swarm in, followed by the shielded enemy in the same room. The enemy will drop a Void Charge on the ground. Bring this back to the Wellspring and deposit it in the correct node.

Repeat the same process for the final two runes. Once all three Void Charges have been inserted, destroy the crystals around the boss to begin the damage phase.

When the boss becomes immune again, you'll need to defeat three miniboss enemies that spawn around the edges of the arena on top of platforms. Each one will drop a Void Charge upon defeat. Deposit the Void Charges into the Wellspring to drop the boss shield again.

Rinse and repeat this process two more times to complete The Wellspring: Attack.

How to Complete The Wellspring: Defend

The Wellspring is a new activity as part of The Witch Queen that rotates between two modes each day. You can hover over The Wellspring icon on the Throne World map to see which activity is happening on any given day, as well as the potential reward dropping.

During The Wellspring: Defend, you'll be, well...defending the Wellspring from enemy forces. You'll begin the mission at the Wellspring, with enemies coming in from the three doorways in the room. Hold off the enemies while the Wellspring is charging. You'll have five minutes to complete this objective.

Next, you'll proceed into the middle room where you'll need to clear a number of Cruxes before the timer runs out. This can be done by shooting the Splinters that appear around them. Clear them all out and hold off the enemies in the room to complete this step of the encounter.

Finally, you'll need to hop down onto the bridge area below and defeat a boss enemy. More Cruxes will appear and you'll need to destroy them in order to drop the boss enemy's shield in between phases.

The Wellspring - Rewards

Just as the activity changes daily, the potential weapon reward also rotates, as well. There are four weapons that are exclusive to the Wellspring:

  • Come to Pass (Auto Rifle)
  • Tarnation (Grenade Launcher)
  • Father's Sins (Sniper Rifle)
  • Fel Taradiddle (Combat Bow)

These weapons are craftable, so once you acquire the Deepsight resonant versions, you can eventually obtain the Weapon Patterns to make the grind a bit less daunting. In addition to the weapons listed above, there's a chance of Veritas Armor dropping from the Wellspring, too.
