Tiger & Bunny 2 (Netflix)

It’s been a little over 10 years since season 1 of Tiger & Bunny released and here we finally are with season 2. Tiger & Bunny follows superhero partners Kotetsu and Barnaby, also known as Wild Tiger and Bunny, as Kotetsu likes to call him. It’s the name of the anime. Get it? The two are partners in a world where superheroes are sponsored by companies and compete to be the King of Heroes on Hero TV, a show that tracks superhero activities live. Even after a decade, the original cast makes their return alongside some new faces and voices. It’ll be interesting to see what season 2 has to offer after years of superheroes in mainstream media. Tiger & Bunny season 2 is now available on Netflix.

Aoashi (Crunchyroll, VRV)

Looking for a new sports anime this season? You don’t have to go too far with Aoashi, a new soccer anime. Aoashi follows Ash*to, the ace of his junior high school team who gets a once in a lifetime opportunity from a stranger after losing a tournament and his chances of getting into a good high school for soccer. You’re probably thinking, “another soccer or football anime?” but Aoashi might surprise you considering Production I.G. is the studio behind the series. If you don’t know, Production I.G. also worked on Haikyu!! and Kuroko’s Basketball, which are solid sports anime. If you want to check out Aoashi, the series is now available on Crunchyroll and VRV.

BIRDIE WING: Golf Girls' Story (Crunchyroll, VRV)

Speaking of sports anime, we have a fun one this season in Birdie Wing -Golf Girls’ Story-. It’s been years since there has been an anime about golf, and they really went for it in this original anime from Bandai Namco Pictures. The series follows Eve, a hot shot golfer who learned to be good at the sport to make money off bets. Any Squid Game fans out there? This might be of interest to you, as it revolves around a group of friends who have to play games to pay off huge debts that they all have mysteriously gained. There’s even a creepy child cartoon character that serves as the MC of this strange series of games. It’s too early to tell if the stakes will go any higher in this psychological thriller, but it’s an intriguing start as we see if this group of friends can really trust each other. Kaguya-sama: Love is War returns for season 3! This popular anime follows Kaguya and Miyuki in this ‘will they, won’t they’ battle of pride. That’s right! They are too proud to confess their feelings for one another, so they go out of their way to make the other confess first. Shenanigans ensue! Alongside this duo is the quirky third wheel Chika, who elevates the series to another level of hilarity. The highly anticipated SPY x Family is finally here! The series follows agent Twilight or Loid in his mission to get close to a particular target via their son’s school. The only problem is, Loid needs a child to enroll in the same school and a wife to play the mother. It’s here where we’re introduced to the telepath, Anya, and the assassin, Yor. Between the three of them and their secret lives and abilities, there seem to be tons of room for spy shenanigans. It’s been a fun watch so far, and should only get more exciting as the season progresses. SPY x FAMILY is available now on Crunchyroll, VRV and Hulu.

Thermae Romae Novae (Netflix)

Thermae Romae Novae’s US premiere was just a few days shy of the official start of the spring season, but we’ll include this fun anime here too. The series follows Lucius, an ancient Roman architect, who hits a creative block. As he partakes in a Roman spa, he is magically teleported to a modern day Japanese bath house. As you can imagine, Lucius is amazed by the simple yet advanced bathing practices and uses those ideas when he finds himself back in his own time period. Thermae Romae Novae is a unique and fun watch that includes some educational info about Japanese onsens, or spas, if you stay long enough each episode. The series is available now on Netflix.

Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie (Crunchyroll, VRV)

Spring seems to be the season of love because we got another rom com worth checking out with Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie. The series follows Shikamori and Izumi, high school students who are already in a relationship. That’s rare! Izumi is known to have terrible luck, so Shikamori has grown protective of him. Whenever she does these protective acts, Shikamori becomes a badass that people can’t help but admire. The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 2 (Crunchyroll, VRV, Funimation, Hulu)

The return of The Rising of the Shield Hero is here with season 2! The series follows Naofumi, who was summoned into another world as one of four heroes tasked with preventing an upcoming disaster. Being the Shield Hero came with negative effects that ultimately led him down a dark path. Now that the world has settled a little, it’ll be interesting to see what season 2 has to offer with Naofumi having a bit more support this time around.
